Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, witnessed the signing of contracts for establishing the largest agri-food complex in the Middle East in Sadat City, with a total investment of up to $300 million.
Details about this Project & Its Aim
The largest agri-food complex is established on an area of 154,000 m2 in Sadat City’s developers’ area, owned by SDM Company. It will include five factories, two of which are the largest in Egypt in manufacturing oranges, tomatoes, and various fruits, in addition to extracting citrus oils. In addition, there is one of the largest plants in the world for fruit and vegetable freeze-drying and the first factory in the Middle East for cloudy products. The largest agri-food complex also includes a factory for freezing fruits and vegetables.
In the first phase, the largest agri-food complex will use the most recent global technology in the agriculture food industry to produce over 100,000 tons of agricultural food products annually in collaboration with significant multinational businesses in this field. This project also aims to create more than 7,000 direct and indirect jobs, with over 80% of its production being exported overseas to support the Egyptian economy by striking a balance between imports and exports.
Who Signed these Project’s Contracts?
The contracts for establishing the largest agri-food complex were signed between MAFI for agriculture produce industries and representatives of international companies supplying the latest technologies in the field of agricultural-food industry in the presence of Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).
The contracts of the largest agri-food complex were signed by Mr. Ahmed Abou Hashima, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MAFI for agriculture produce industries, Mr. Luca Bordini, General Manager of JBT FoodTech Company for the Middle East that is the leader for providing technology solutions for the food sectors, Mr. Sunil Kumar, General Manager of GEA Middle East that specialized in supplying food processing technology, and Mr. Per Müller, General Manager of Cabinplant Company, that is advanced in developing and supplying solutions for food industries globally.
Statements Regarding the Establishment of this Project
Mr. Ahmed Abou Hashima, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MAFI for agriculture produce industries, stated that this move is in line with the Egyptian government’s focus on maximizing industrial capabilities through the strategy of encouraging exports and displacing imports. Accordingly, MAFI was founded to produce crops and to be the owner of this integrated industrial complex for the production and export of agricultural food products that are needed worldwide. The company’s goal is to become the largest producer and exporter of agricultural products in a short time.
For his part, Mr. Bordini, General Manager of JBT FoodTech Company for the Middle East, confirmed that the MAFI food complex is the largest and most technologically advanced in the Middle East, pointing out the high quality that this largest agri-food complex will produce for international markets.
